What is the difference between a COB LED strip and an SOB LED strip?

A COB LED strip buries bare dies under one phosphor layer, which caps most product at roughly 12W/m before the phosphor discolours. An SOB LED strip (also written FOB, S-COB or COB Pro) mounts flip-chip dies on a thick-copper board and covers them individually, so the same dot-free line runs to 24W/m, holds CRI 95 and keeps SDCM ≤3 over the reel. Visually both are dotless; thermally and electrically the SOB build is the upgrade.

Why choose a high power dot-free LED strip at 24W/m?

Cove and wall-wash lines above 4 m of throw need real lumens, not just an even line. A 24W/m dot-free LED strip on 105µm copper delivers roughly double the output of a 12W/m COB tape while staying under the junction temperature that shifts colour, so you keep the continuous light with no dots and still hit the lux target in one run.

Is a flip chip on board LED strip really seamless with no dots?

Yes. Flip-chip on board removes the gold wire and places the emitting surface directly against the phosphor, so the luminous line is continuous even 20 mm behind a clear lens. How far can a single feed LED strip run without voltage drop?
