LED Strip IP Rating & Environment Selector

The environment selector maps IP20, IP65, IP67 and IP68 construction to real installations, from dry interior coves to splash zones, covered exteriors and sealed outdoor details.

How the LED Strip IP Rating & Environment Selector works

The environment selector maps IP20, IP65, IP67 and IP68 construction to real installations, from dry interior coves to splash zones, covered exteriors and sealed outdoor details.

Waterproof construction lowers heat dissipation, so the selector flags where a sealed build should be paired with a conservative drive current and a suitable profile.

  • IP20: dry interior coves and furniture.
  • IP65: splash zones, kitchens and covered exteriors.
  • IP67 / IP68: sealed builds for wet, in-ground and outdoor details.

Frequently asked questions

What IP rating do I need for an outdoor LED strip?

Exposed outdoor runs normally need a sealed IP67 or IP68 construction; covered exteriors that only see splash can use IP65.

What is the difference between IP65 and IP67 LED strip?

Under IEC 60529, IP65 protects against water jets while IP67 protects against temporary immersion, which suits wetter installations.

Is IP20 LED strip suitable for kitchens?

IP20 has no water protection and suits dry areas only. Areas near sinks or cooking are better served by IP65 or higher.
