High-Power LED Strip: Heat Dissipation & Aluminum Channel Guide

At up to 15.36W/m, 27297 is a high-power SMD LED strip. Above roughly 14.4W/m the tape can no longer shed its own heat through the FPC alone — an aluminum channel is part of the luminaire, not an accessory.

Why high-wattage strips need a heat sink

  • Aluminum conducts heat roughly 30× faster than the plastics, MDF or gypsum a strip is usually stuck to, so a bare high-power run traps heat under the tape.
  • LED lifetime (LM-80 / TM-21) is driven by solder-point temperature Tc. Keeping Tc inside the datasheet limit — DENO strips are rated Tc ≤ 75°C — is what preserves the rated L70 lifetime and colour stability.
  • Never run 14.4W/m or more coiled on the reel, inside a sealed plastic diffuser, or directly on wood, wallpaper or foam.

Sizing rule: FPC width vs channel inner width

  • Channel inner width ≥ FPC width + 2mm. This strip is 12mm wide, so it needs at least 14mm of inner width.
  • The 2mm clearance absorbs extrusion tolerance and lets the tape be seated or replaced without scraping the side walls or the wiring.
  • A frosted or opal PC cover then diffuses the higher lumen output into an even, dot-free line instead of visible hot spots.

Recommended LED Channels

Mount this LED strip in a DENO LED aluminum profile for heat dissipation, physical protection and diffused, dot-free output.

This strip is 12mm wide, so it needs a channel with at least 14mm inner width (12mm + 2mm clearance). Every profile below meets that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key specifications of 27297?

27297: 5050, 48, 24V, 12 PCB, 2oz copper FPCB, cuttable 6LEDs/125mm. Full photometric data, wiring diagrams and test reports are available in the downloads section of this page.

What makes the construction of this S-bend flexible LED strip different?

It is built as a S-bend flexible LED strip on 2oz copper FPCB with a cutting unit of 6LEDs/125mm and an LED pitch of 20.8mm, so it holds its electrical and mechanical performance where standard strips fail.

Can DENO customise this S-bend flexible LED strip for a project?

Yes. DENO manufactures the S-Bend SMD Strips series as an OEM and ODM supplier: reel length, colour temperature, CRI grade, PCB width, waterproofing and private labelling can all be specified. Request a quote for lead time and project pricing.

What does the W channel add on an RGBW LED strip?

The fourth chip is a real white LED, so the strip delivers a clean 2700K to 6500K white at full efficacy instead of the pale tint produced by mixing red, green and blue. RGBCCT versions add a second white channel for tunable white control alongside colour.

How tightly can a bendable LED strip turn a corner?

The S-shaped FPCB pattern lets the strip curve in the plane of the board, so it follows a radius of about 30 mm horizontally instead of needing a cut and a solder joint. Curved coves, circular ceilings and signage letters stay as one continuous run of flexible LED strip lights.

RGBW LED Strip — Buyer Questions

What is an RGBW LED strip?

An RGBW LED strip carries a fourth, dedicated white die alongside the red, green and blue ones. The colour channels handle scenes and accents while the white channel delivers real architectural light — 2700K to 6500K at Ra 90+ — so one run covers both jobs instead of mixing a bluish pseudo-white from RGB alone.

How do you connect and wire an RGBW LED strip?

RGBW tape is a five-pin constant-voltage load: one shared V+ and four PWM negatives (R, G, B, W). Match the pin order printed on the board to the decoder, keep the run on a single controller output, and wire multiple runs in parallel from the driver — never in series, which starves the far run and shifts its colour.

Should I use 12V or 24V RGBW LED strip lights?

24V is the default for architectural work — at equal wattage it draws half the current, so a feed reaches 5–10 m before the white channel visibly warms and the colour mix drifts. 12V is kept for short cabinet, furniture and vehicle runs where the controller is 12V-native. For anything past 10 m, use a mid-feed or constant-current build.

What is the difference between 10mm and 12mm RGBW LED strips?

Width follows the package and the copper. A 10 mm board fits standard slim profiles and suits 4-in-1 packages such as 5050 RGBW; 12 mm gives room for wider copper pours or side-by-side RGB + white dies, which raises usable output and lowers junction temperature. DENO builds both, and narrower 8 mm versions where the channel demands it.

What are the brightest RGBW LED tape light options?

Output is set by die count and thermal headroom, not by the controller. DENO's high-output colour builds reach 24 W/m with 2 oz copper on 12 mm boards; 4-in-1 packages keep the four channels on one optical centre, while separate RGB + white layouts trade a small colour-mixing penalty for more white lumens.

Can I order a custom RGBW or RGB+CCT LED strip?

Yes. Channel layout (RGBW, RGBWW, RGB+CCT five-channel), white CCT and CRI, LED density, PCB width from 8 mm, copper weight, cut unit, IP class and connector are all configurable. DENO is the manufacturer, so a non-standard colour build is tooled from an existing FPCB stack-up instead of being quoted as a new product line.
