Do full spectrum LED strips flicker, and do they emit UV or too much blue light?
A flicker free LED strip depends on the driver, not the spectrum: specify at least 1 kHz PWM for general work and 16 kHz or analogue constant-current dimming for camera-facing installations, where DENO CC segments measure Pst LM below 1.0 and SVM below 0.4. On UV, a 405 nm violet pump sits at the very edge of the visible band and is fully converted by the phosphor, so there is no meaningful UV output — and because the pump is not a 450 nm spike, the blue peak is lower than on conventional white tape at the same CCT.
Blue-light hazard and UV in practice
The blue-light hazard function peaks near 435–440 nm. A blue-pump white LED puts its highest narrow-band output almost exactly there, whereas a violet-excited board's pump sits at 405 nm, outside the peak, and most of it is converted by phosphor. At the same illuminance the weighted radiance is therefore lower, which makes an RG0 exempt-group classification easier to hold for close-range and clinical installations.
For museum work the relevant number is UV-A leakage. Below 2 µW/lm is the conventional threshold for displaying sensitive pigments, textiles and paper without additional filtration; DENO measures full spectrum production against that figure and reports it on the lot certificate.
Flicker comes from the driver, not the phosphor
No LED strip fixes flicker on its own — the modulation is produced by the driver and dimming method. What the board contributes is phosphor decay time and, on constant-current designs, per-segment regulation that keeps current stable when the supply sags.
Specify at least 1 kHz PWM for general interiors and 16 kHz or analogue constant-current dimming where cameras are used. The compliance figures to ask for are Pst LM below 1.0 and SVM below 0.4, both of which DENO measures on constant-current full spectrum builds.
