What are the brightest LED strip lights you can actually buy?
The brightest LED strip lights are not denser versions of an 8-10 mm tape — they are wider boards. Brightness is capped by how many dies fit per metre and how much heat the board can shed, so DENO widens the FPCB to 18, 20, 36 or 64 mm to carry two, three or four parallel LED rows, up to 960 LEDs/m, with 2-3 oz copper growing in the same proportion. That combination reaches over 8,000 lm/m while keeping junction temperature inside spec at full drive.
Rows multiply flux, copper keeps it alive
A single-row 10 mm board is capped twice over: by the pitch between emitters and by the small copper area available to spread their heat. Widening the FPCB removes both limits at once. A 20 mm two-row build doubles the emitter count per metre, and a 64 mm four-row build quadruples it, while the copper plane grows in the same proportion so the extra watts have somewhere to go.
Without that copper the exercise would fail. Push 45 W/m through a narrow board and junction temperature climbs, efficacy drops and lumen maintenance collapses long before the warranty period is over. DENO specifies 2–3 oz copper on the high-output wide boards precisely so the measured output at hour 6,000 still matches the datasheet.
What to check before specifying the widest board
Width is only useful if the installation can accept it and dissipate it. Run through this list before locking the build:
- Profile width — the extruded channel must take an 18–64 mm board plus tolerance
- Mounting substrate — aluminium, not plasterboard, above roughly 20 W/m
- Driver headroom — a 5 m reel at 45 W/m draws over 200 W
- Feed strategy — both-ends or mid-feed on high-current runs
- Diffuser distance — wide multi-row boards still need depth for an even face
