Is a double row LED strip brighter than a high density single row?

A double row LED strip is brighter, because rows multiply the number of dies per metre; a high density single row is more even, because uniformity depends on the pitch-to-diffuser-depth ratio, which extra rows do not change. So a shallow 8 mm reveal is solved by pitch, never by width, while a deep profile chasing a high lux target is solved by rows. DENO's 36 mm and 64 mm boards run three or four dense rows at once and deliver both.

Two different constraints

Uniformity is governed by the ratio between LED pitch and the distance to the diffuser. Below roughly a 1:1 ratio the eye sees discrete dots; above it the beams overlap into a continuous line. Adding rows does not change that ratio at all — it changes total flux. So a shallow 8 mm reveal is solved by pitch (a 3.9 mm high-density board), never by width.

Output, by contrast, is governed by emitter count and thermal capacity, which is exactly what width buys. The two levers are independent, which is why the top of the range applies both: dense pitch within each row, and three or four rows side by side.

Decision shortcuts

Match the board to the dominant constraint on the detail:

  • Shallow cove, close diffuser, moderate light — high density single row
  • Deep profile, long throw, high lux target — wide multi-row
  • Both — 36 mm or 64 mm multi-row with dense pitch per row
  • Tight channel where width is impossible — narrow board plus more circuits
